New Phone, Who Dis?

My website address is: http://www.mpotapova.com. But you already knew that, otherwise how did you find me?

What personal data I collect and why I collect it

For shits and giggles, of course. But because GDPR and CPRA exist, here’s my legal policy, blah blah I’m not your lawyer, this applies only to my website. You know the drill now.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. (I don’t actually do anything with this because I’m a lawyer and I have no idea how the magic internet gremlins work anymore. I just know I need to warn you that said data is collected.)

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to my website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to my website can download and extract any location data from images on my website. Sorry, I don’t know how to fix that or change the settings.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, my site will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, my site will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Also cookies are delicious, and now I want one. Or several.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who I share your data with

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on my website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

I mean let’s be honest though, your data isn’t really all that interesting. But whatever.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you (and I guess I’lll then have to figure out how to export that crap because, really, your data isn’t that interesting), including any data you have provided to this site. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you, but that’s going to really put a damper on my afternoon since I have no idea how this shit is stored via WordPress anyway. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes, but even if I express a legal opinion about something on Twitter or here, keep in  mind that I’m not your lawyer so I don’t have an obligation to retain your data. No really, I’m NOT your lawyer.

Where I send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. I’m looking at you, Russian websites who submit a hundred stupid spam comments with an embedded link to some stupid site that I’m not dumb enough to click on (yet).

Other concerns? Email me. This is a writer’s website with some scattered bits of politics and feminist news, and I’m technically also a mandatory reporter because of the whole lawyer thing. So just use some common sense. Please don’t send me any information you shouldn’t send me.
